Promotional products continue to be the most affordable and effective form of advertising for companies and agencies.

No other form of advertising puts your name or message in the hands of your target audience. You can hope someone opens your mass email or finds your website in a search, but personally giving away items or samples with your logo is a sure-fire way to get noticed!

Why promotional products are important

Eighty-three percent of consumers are more likely to do business with a brand that gave them a promotional product, according to a study by Promotional Products Association International (PPAI). It’s a simple concept that smart marketing teams and outreach specialists know and embrace.

Need more promotional products’ statistics from businesses and organizations who use them? Here you go!

  • 87 percent say promotional products helped them reach their marketing goals
  • 96 percent believe customized items are an effective form of advertising
  • 63 percent said promotional products increase their brand awareness
  • 89 percent credited personalized items with gaining new customers

How are promotional products used?

Customized promotional products are used to achieve branding, fundraising, awareness and customer loyalty. Customized items with logos are most often used as giveaways to familiarize clients and potential customers with your company or organization.

Here are a few examples of who uses promotional products:

Businesses

Customized promotional products are successfully used by businesses as giveaways at trade shows, conventions, open houses and local events. They also provide ultimate branding opportunities when given to employees as holiday gifts or rewards.

Companies big and small turn to customized promotional products for brand recognition. Personalized items such as bulk stress balls and bottle openers with logos can identify your company, and help potential customers remember your logo and the products you offer.

Brand awareness is crucial to businesses in order to grow. Promotional products serve as brand ambassadors that naturally advertise your company every time they are used.

Law enforcement

Law enforcement agencies at the local, state and federal levels use custom products to enhance public relations.

“I think it helps to promote our image in the community,” Mercer County (Ohio) Sheriff Jeff Grey said.

At last year’s county fair — not far from squealing pigs and blue-ribbon cookies — stood the sheriff’s personalized banner about prescription drug disposal. It wasn’t as popular as the funnel cake stand, but it got noticed.

“We definitely saw an increase in the number of drugs dropped off after that,” Grey said.

His department also uses custom banners to announce upcoming programs and publicize its anonymous tip line.

“We used banners to get people to sign up for our sexual offender notification program and saw a significant spike in enrollment for weeks after that,” Grey said.

Other advertising methods help. But according to PPAI, giving away items with a personal message boosts the effectiveness of other media by up to 44 percent.

Health departments and hospitals

Julia Shaffer, the director of nursing for Mercer County-Celina City Health Department, said her staff uses printed T-shirts to promote their services. The local hospital, Mercer Health, purchased custom table covers with their logo for health fairs and fundraisers.

“Our logo is easily recognized and represents our commitment to serve the health needs of residents in Mercer County and the surrounding communities,” said Deb Hemmelgarn, the hospital’s marketing and communications director.

Customized products keep working for you

All types of businesses and organizations tap into custom promo products because they know more than half of the recipients will keep them.

Do you still have the plastic cup your child got months ago at a fast-food place? Eight out of 10 consumers own at least one promotional product and will keep it for about two years.

Every time you wash that customized cup or fill it with milk you see that restaurant’s name. Studies show that 88 percent of people remember a name or message on custom products.
