A gender reveal baby shower adds a mysterious element to the traditional gift-giving occasion.

All of a sudden your “bump” has an identity and you get to choose how to share the exciting news! Keep in mind that suspense and creativity are key to pulling this off.

You’ll find lots of great tips on the Internet. But if you’re short on time, take a look at the amazing ideas I’ve gathered for you here:

10 gender reveal baby shower ideas

1. Gender Reveal Puzzle

The Gender Reveal 120 pc. Puzzle by Craftsbycourt on Etsy gets guests working together to discover the baby’s gender. I like the idea of giving guests an activity to keep them involved during the party.

2. M&M’s™ cake reveal

It doesn’t get much easier than this! Build your surprise into a cake for your guests. Betty Crocker’s Surprise on the Inside Gender Reveal Cake will end the suspense with a quick slice of the knife. Your secret is unleashed as blue or pink M&M’s™ make their escape.

3. Balloons in a box

This works best when you can take the party outside, even if it’s just for a few moments. Decorate a large box and lid with gender-neutral colors. You can also decorate the box with your baby shower theme as long as it’s not gender-specific. Place blue or pink helium-filled balloons inside the box and when you’re ready … let ’em fly!

4. Smoke signals

I’ve seen lots of different smoke bomb ideas but this is my favorite: Smoke Powder Cannon™ by PoofThereItIsReveals. The cannons are available in 12- and 24-inch sizes and are made to order through Etsy. The color of each cannon is identified by a sticker that can be removed before the party to keep the secret. The company uses FDA-approved Holi Powder. I prefer this idea over confetti cannons, which can require a lot of cleanup time afterward.

5. Stashes or Lashes?

Make your guests commit to a guess with this adorable Stashes or Lashes game. You’ll need a chalkboard or dry erase board, colored chalk or dry erase markers and some prizes for the winners! Set the board up on an easel or in a place that’s convenient for everyone. You can use the design and text pictured here or create your own.

6. Color-changing cups

Baby Shower Gender Reveal Mood Cups

Pour a drink and let the cheering begin! Our 16-oz. Color Changing Plastic Stadium Cups are perfect for a gender reveal baby shower. You’re going to need cups anyway, right? So why not make them part of the big reveal AND a favor your guests can take home? As you pour a cold beverage into these cups, they change to the color of your choice. Choose product color blue for a boy; magenta for a girl. You also get your choice of imprint colors for whatever design you select!

This is a good time to order your baby shower party supplies and favors, too!

7. Silly String

To pull this one off effectively, you’ll need to wrap the pink or blue Silly String cans with thick paper or some other type of disguise to mask the color. Take your group outside, shout “One, two, three” and let ’em spray! It’s a great way to get everyone on their feet and socializing with one another.

8. Hershey’s® He/She Candy Bars

This idea takes advantage of the “he” and “she” in Hershey’s name. Take a permanent blue or pink marker and fill in the appropriate letters to reveal your baby’s gender. Walla, you’re done!

9. Scratch-off surprise

I found lots of gender reveal scratch-off cards but Spearmint Love really nails it with their Prince or Princess styles! The “It’s a BOY!” and “It’s a GIRL” cards are just adorable. Toss everyone a penny and let them discover your good fortune!

10. Gender Reveal Candles
