The masters of color language chose Ultimate Gray and Illuminating (bright yellow) as the newlyweds for 2021. It’s a fitting marriage, considering the roller coaster we’ve all experienced the past nine months. The contrast speaks volumes.

Grey is uneventful and a little mysterious; bright, sunshine yellow is upbeat with hope for better days ahead. At least that’s my take on this pair and I welcome the message.
Pantone and I are on the same page with this debut. They describe the union of Ultimate Gray and Illuminating as “one of strength and positivity. It is a story of color that encapsulates deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the promise of something sunny and friendly.” Wow. I love that!
Placing different elements together to support one another is a concept many of us need to hold onto today. I hope Pantone’s optimism for creating colors that are “warming and optimistic” spreads.
