COLDWATER, Ohio —Totally Promotional recently began customizing ceramic mugs in-house to ensure high quality and service to its customers.
The promotional products company this spring added ceramic mugs to its product line with customization initially completed off-site. After investing thousands of dollars in equipment and creating several new jobs, Totally Promotional’s staff recently began personalizing mugs on-site.
“Printing the mugs in-house just seemed like a natural fit,” company COO Lynn Huwer explained. “We have been extremely successful with other drinkware product lines we print in-house and did not doubt that mugs would be different.”
Customizing ceramic mugs in-house means better service for customers, Huwer said.
“Printing the mugs in our facility allows us to monitor the quality of the entire customer journey,” she said. “We are able to ensure the mugs are of top-notch quality, printed flawlessly, and neatly packaged to arrive at our customer’s door.”
Printing mugs on-site also allows the company to offer expedited services and low minimum quantities per order. Several of the ceramic mug styles carry a minimum quantity of six, which is convenient when ordering for small gatherings or business meetings, Huwer added.
The printing process for mugs is similar to those used for certain glassware items, according to Totally Promotional Plant Manager Jake Heuker. Mugs imprinted with one color are screen-printed; full-color imprints require a dye sublimation process, he said.
Heuker said one of the largest pieces of equipment purchased to imprint mugs was a 40-foot tunnel oven. It exposes the mugs to a high temperature for an extended period to increase the quality of the imprint.
